Preparing for Thanksgiving

The Food Pantry has been getting busier every month due to the current economy. Through June we have served over 5,500 people this year, and hosted a series of food stamp enrollment clinics. The next one is scheduled for October 1, 2009 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
During these summer months, vendors from the San Leandro Downtown Farmer’s Market
on Wednesday nights have been donating their leftover produce which we then distribute on Thursday nights.
Thank you to the volunteers who are picking up this produce on Wednesday night and bringing it to the church. Not only are we able to give out canned and packaged goods, but also fresh fruit and vegetables. During these summer months, we also welcome any excess produce from your gardens or fruit trees. Thanks again to the rest of the volunteers who stock the food pantry, pack on Wednesday nights, pack and distribute on Thursday nights
and pick up food from other sources. Please remember to thank the owner of Big Apple Bagel when you stop in as we get fresh bagels from there every Thursday night.
If you would like to get involved in this growing program at Faith, please contact Mary
Wildensten at (510) 921-3948 or Teri Donat at (510) 889-0707.

Mission:

We are an emergency food source for low-income families or individuals. Referrals are accepted from agencies, churches and community groups helping people with emergency needs.  The referrals are directed to the Faith Lutheran Church Office.

We provide non-perishable food for 2 days.  Individuals or agencies may pick up the box of food at the Food Pantry.  A family or individual may receive food once every 3 months, or 4 times in a 12-month period, excluding the annual Thanksgiving food basket giveaway.  Agencies can provide up to 10 names each week.
