Faith Lutheran is a house of prayer for all people, a spiritual hub, and more — but it is also a warm ELCA congregation. Our congregation includes families and singles, children and seniors, and LGBTQ and heterosexual people, with a wide diversity of ethnicities, interests and backgrounds.
A first step to becoming involved in any church community is to worship there. Participating in worship lets you see if this community is the one you wish to make your spiritual home.
After Sunday service, there is a coffee hour that is an informal, relaxed time to meet congregants and the pastor. And at every service, people who are part of the congregation—pastor, volunteers such as ushers—are easy to spot and eager to answer your questions or point you in the right direction.
You are invited to worship with us!
From all over the Bay Area and throughout Castro Valley, people come to Faith Lutheran Church to experience lively worship and an active faith community. People come carrying concerns and questions, weary hearts, or hungering spirits. They bring a yearning for discovering true community and for finding purpose and meaning bigger than their own lives.
At the heart of Faith Lutheran Church is worship in which we encounter a living and loving God.
Join us for a one hour blended worship service for all ages at 10AM every Sunday (Note: special celebrations, such as Easter Sunday, may have more than 1 service)
Worship is live streamed on Youtube. (Note: you do not need to have a Youtube account in order to watch the livestream on Youtube.)
"Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music deserves the highest praise."
-Martin Luther
We have three octaves of Malmark handbells but tend to only pull out a portion of them because we don't quite have enough hands. That's where you come in! Know the basic rules of sheet music and have a desire to learn more? Then you're qualified! We generally rehearse Wednesday evenings and try to perform at Sunday morning services once a month. We take a break in summer months. Adults and older youth welcome.
Calling all singers! We have a small, passionate group of singers who would love more to join. Musical styles vary between religious anthems, gospel, praise tunes and more. Accompaniment comes from our Sunday morning piano and organ musician, and occasionally with other instrumental performers both within and outside of our congregation. Our goal is to sing hymns each Sunday, both unison and in harmony, and special choral arrangments once per month. We rehearse Wednesday evenings starting approximately 8:30pm in the sanctuary, following handbell practice.
We welcome visiting musical groups, both locally and from around the world to perform in our beautiful worship space. Reach out to us for more details.
That's ok too - come on any Sunday morning to hear our Yamaha C7 Grand Piano weighing in at 7' 6" and 913 lbs, an addition to our sanctuary in 2018. We also have a Balcom & Vaughan Pipe Organ, Opus 842, built in 1979 with three divisions, 52 stops and 52 registers. It's quite a bit larger than the piano. Read more about our Pipe Organ on our Events & Properties page.
